Water Baptism

What is water baptism?

Water baptism is an outward expression of the work that Christ has done in you. The water symbolizes the grave and being fully immersed in Jesus. The word ‘baptism’ means to be fully immersed. This represents making a decision to die to your old self as you are immersed in the water and resurrecting into your new life Christ coming out of the water. This outward expression identifies with Christ who died for us, conquering sin and death, and resurrecting from the grave.

Who & why should get water baptized?

Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20 (TPT) “Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.”

Mark 16:16 says “Whoever believes the good news and is baptized will be saved, and whoever does not believe the good news will be condemned.”

We see from the Bible that when people received God’s message into their hearts, they were immediately water baptized. “Peter replied, “Repent (change your way of thinking, turn away from your evil ways) and return to God, and each one of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus, the Anointed One, to have your sins removed. Then you may take hold of the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38 (TPT)

It is a personal decision of every believer from a pure heart. You do not need to have a perfect life in order to be water baptized. It is an act of obedience and a response to God and His word.
